The Alfa Laval Vortex Radial Eductor consists of a tapered nozzle housed in a specially designed body of moulded high density, abrasion-resistant polyurethane with a fused stainless steel female NPT nut-style connection. Typical installations require one or more to be put on the tank’s recirculation pipe.

The Alfa Laval Vortex Radial Eductor intake, where pressure accumulates at the aperture, receives fluid. The helical-shaped suction ports of the eductor body pull in the surrounding fluid, resulting in a pressure drop and a powerful vacuum. This is due to increased fluid velocity at the nozzle. These unusual suction pores form a vortex-shaped discharge plume.
Basic Equipment
The Alfa Laval Vortex Radial Eductor features a uniquely formed body made of high-density, abrasion-resistant polyurethane. The polyurethane body is bonded to a stainless steel female NPT connector during the moulding process. In a typical application, one or more eductors are mounted on a piping manifold system located within a trench or vessel. The number and size of eductors required for a certain application are determined by the vessel size and the agitation rate, which is also known as the turnover rate or TOR.
The Standard Design
The Alfa Laval Vortex Radial Eductor consists of a tapered nozzle housed within a specially designed body composed of moulded high density, abrasion-resistant polyurethane with a fused stainless steel female NPT nut-style connection. Connection sizes range from 25 mm (1 in%) to 51 mm (2 in%). Typically, one or more are put within a tank using a piping manifold. The number and size of eductors required will depend on the vessel size and the necessary agitation or turnover rate (TOR%).
The Working Principle
Pressure builds up at the Radial Eductor input as fluid is pumped there. As the fluid velocity at the nozzle increases, the pressure decreases, and a forceful vacuum is created via helical-shaped suction ports, sucking the surrounding fluid into the eductor body. These peculiar suction ports produce a spiralled, radially moving discharge plume similar to a vortex.
Compared to a plume from a standard nozzle or tank mixing eductor, this plume is more consistent, has a longer reach, and displaces a far larger volume of surrounding fluid. This causes significantly more fluid movement and displacement within the tanks. The radial eductor is useful for any application where a centrifugal pump can handle the motivating fluid.
