The Alfa Laval LKB Butterfly Valve can be operated manually with a handle or remotely using a pneumatic actuator. The actuator comes in three typical configurations: normally closed (NC), normally open (NO), and air/air activated (A/A).

In pneumatic operation, an actuator converts axial piston motion into a shaft rotation of 90 degrees. The actuator torque increases when the valve disc makes contact with the butterfly valve seal ring, ensuring proper valve seat seal.

When operating the valve manually, a handle mechanically locks it in either an open or closed position. Handles are available in two, four, regulating 90° and multi-position configurations. Manual butterfly valves are also equipped with indicators that provide feedback on valve position (open/closed).
